However, I continued to hope that Trump was a pragmatic leader who understood tjat Israel is in a war for its national survival. Now Trump sent his business friend with a connection to the Qataris to force through a surrender to Hamas.
Why did Trump raise this issue now? Couldn't he have just remained silent until he entered office supported by what I hoped would be a strong pro-Israel cabinet? How could Netanyahu allow this deal to go forward? There is no question that the Israeli government is writing a "Schindler's list"--letting some hostages die, and setting up future disasters with for untold numbers of soldiers and Israeli citizens.
